First, on the 1st, Megan's Gone but not Forgotten (GBNF) presentation was on Rosalind Franklin, the "dark lady of DNA. " Her presentation was a collection of interesting facts about Ms. Franklin's life as a Jewish female scientist contributing to the studies that would eventually lead to the Nobel Prize won by Watson & Crick. In fact, they used her first x-rays of DNA as evidence of the shape of DNA. Of course, she received little credit until much later, partly because she was a woman, and partly because she died of cancer in her 30's. Megan's presentation was superb (I'm not biased at all), and she even had a dress that looked just like Ms. Franklin's 50's style. Target, $12.99. Who'd a thunk it?
On the 4th of April, Megan was again showcased - on Children's Day at the Capitol. She won the Leon County 5th grade Civics Essay Contest sponsored by the Tallahassee Democrat, and she got the chance to read it on the steps of the Capitol.
She again got to meet Representative Alan Williams, and even though she nearly froze, it was a wonderful day for our family. Best of all, the grand prize was a two-night stay at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando! WOOHOO!
April was obviously a month of excitement for Megan. The next exciting thing to happen was the Lady Seminoles Spring Camp. Megan's coach was none other than Cierra Bravard (6'4" All Conference star of the Lady Seminoles).
She had an awesome time in these non-stop training sessions. Totally worth it!
The next April event - Easter! We went to the evening church service, so the kids got to hunt easter eggs and we enjoyed the day.
Before church, we went to Ted's Montana Grill with Gran-ma and Papa Creamer. The kids love the sliders there more than just about anything. It was a wonderful day!
My last working day at AEIT, April 28th, was also Take Your Son/Daughter to Work Day. The 22nd floor of the Capitol was a mass of booths and exhibits from government agencies and the colleges.
Governor Scott spoke to the crowd of employees and kids, and Megan and I met his wife, Ann. Megan got lots of free stuff, too! Then we went back to my office to finish packing up and head out. Best last day of work ever!
On the 29th, Megan and I went on the 5th grade field trip to Sea World. Because she took pictures on her camera, and I have no idea when they'll be downloaded, I'll just say that she had a fantastic time. She spent the day with best bud Olivia and her friend Gus from her class (with their moms, too!), and we saw all the shows and bought gifts for the family. Highlights? Angry polar bears and walruses close up - too close if you ask me.
There are some parts of a walrus that you don't want at eye level.
In all, April was fast paced and exciting for the family. Next post - May!
